{UAH} Okay..! We are screwed as debts build up
Do not worry about Uganda debt.
It's actually manageable since the mainstream economy only supports
just less than 30% of the population. Government employs less than
half a million people out of the now 19 million adults. NSSF has about
between 800000-900000 active savers! Umeme has less than 1.5 million
clients.
That cluster is the most corrupt a reason why: Nakummat , Shoprite,
Capital Shoppers or Games super markets are basically located in
Kampala. These super markets would be in all major municipalities
besides Entebbe and Mbarara of course!
The rest 70%-80% Uganda population are in informal economy (Mivumba
Economics), NRM is clueless how to formalize since they are the
ignorant peasant voters who should line-up for NAADS seeds. This class
therefore can't be taxed (aggregated demand) and without being taxed –
the GDP calculation are awfully wrong. Indeed they earn hand to mouth
but it could even be better if the state were present into their lives
which is not the case – typfying the African tragedy.
If there is a government that can redirect its development propensity
towards social development (local government infrastructure, amenities
and utilities) rather than the market, you will see a jump in the
economy. Uganda political myopic class assume the more you export the
more money you make!
Yet everyone will be earning and making small profitable investments
building on Local Government infrastructure, amenities and utilities
investment.
Do you ask yourself how many Ugandans do actually consume electricity,
water, have landlines, permanent homes, paved access roads, have sewer
lines – the figure is depressingly less than 20% of the entire adult
population. Well everyone has a mobile phone and the shilling
continues to deprecate from 2100 shs when I came here now to 3750 shs
per dollar.
That is development since 1962.
The design of modern toilet facility for example is a signature to
industrial production.
