{UAH} Pojim/MzeeOcaya/Ocen/Gwokto/Allan et al: Telling 4 Uhuru/Raila Kisumu 13Dec18 Items

- The president called on Kisumu residents to support his government in war against graft

- He said his government was not targeting any tribe in fighting corruption

- Some Kalenjin leaders had claimed their tribe was unfairly targeted in war against corruption

- Coincidently top CEO and MDs of parastatals who've been arrested over corruption are Kalenjin

- Most recently, CEO of National Hospital Insurance Fund and MD of Kenya Pipeline Corporation

President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained the government's fight against corruption is not targeting any particular community but only focuses on graft suspects.

The president has called on leaders to stop dragging their communities in graft cases involving people from their tribes.

Speaking during visit to Kisumu county on Thursday, December 13, the Head of State urged Kenyans to support the government in the fight against graft for realisation of positive results.
"We united with my brother (Raila) and one of the main things we agreed on is the fight against graft and ensure all those corrupt officials rot in jail. We have also said we don't want anybody to bring their tribe in war against corruption," said Uhuru.

"If you are a Kikuyu, Kamba, Kalenjin or Luo and you are corrupt you should rot in jail. You stole alone and not with your community, do not drag your tribe. A thief is a thief regardless of the tribe, race or color and should be treated as a thief," he added.

The president's statement came barely days after outspoken Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi claimed Kalenjins who hold various government positions were paying a heavy price on behalf of Deputy President William Ruto.
"I want to ask the architects of all these to be clear on their agenda, we cannot allow to sacrifice careers of our sons and daughters just because of William Ruto's ambitions. They can go ahead and arrest Deputy President if they so dare," said Sudi.

Also, Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei issued a stern warning to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Noordin Haji, over alleged ethnic profiling of people from the Kalenjin community in the ongoing anti-graft war.

So far, Kenya Power boss Ken Tarus and his predecessor Ben Chumo, Newton Terer of National Cereals and Produce Board and Kenya Pipeline Corporation's former boss Joe Sang are some of top parastatal heads from the community linked to mega corruption cases.

However, Sudi claimed that arrest of National Hospital Insurance Fund Chief Executive Officer Geofrey Mwangi, a Kikuyu, was just a decoy to diffuse perception that the purge on corruption was targeting a particular community.
