AMID WALL FIGHT, LATINOS LOVE TRUMP

Approval rating skyrockets during government shutdown

Confounding conventional wisdom, a new poll shows President Trump’s approval rating among Latinos has skyrocketed by 20 points since the government shutdown over the border wall Republicans want to fund.

An NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll in early December showed Trump at 31 percent among Latino adults.

But the latest Marist poll, released Thursday, shows the president’s job approval among the same demographic at 51 percent.

Remarkably, the poll indicated a jump in Latino approval at the same time the president’s overall approval among Americans dropped 7 points since December.
