{UAH} Museveni Bans Sports Betting Business

WBK,

What do you make of this announcement by your man Kayibanda? Is it just one of the silly announcements he keeps making these days when he is faced with the consequences of the 33 years of his corrupt and myopic mis-rule?  Kayibanda nowadays governs by issuing announcements, warnings and directives, a great deal of which are totally meaningless, and in fact he has no power to enforce. May be the man is bonkers as many have claimed all along..

The president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered ban of sports betting business in the country.

Museveni says betting companies have diverted youths from working hard and has thus directed that no more betting company should be licenced and that those existing won't get renewal of their licences.

This was revealed by the Minister of State for Finance in charge of Planning, Mr David Bahati at a church congregation at Rugarama Hill in Kabale town yesterday.

"We have received a directive from President Museveni to stop licensing sports betting, gaming and gambling companies. The President has now directed the board which has been regulating them…. From now onwards, no new companies are going to be licensed. Those which are already registered, no renewal of licences when they expire," Mr Bahati told the church congregation.

We shall keep you posted.
