MITOOMA- After a devastating defeat in the 2016 elections, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire has told a section of residents in the area that he has "forgiven them" and ready to work for them to improve service delivery.

"I am a Member of Parliament representing State House, a minister; and for what reason, will I be coming back to you," he said at Nyakatete trading centre. "You pushed me away like useless person but I have forgiven you. If you are born with an unwise person, you can't abandon him. That's why I am back to do bungibwansi (community work) for you."
Gen Otafiire said prior to his defeat, he had initiated several projects in the constituency and abandoning them [projects], after the downfall would be meaningless.
"I had decided to leave you but I realised that the projects I started were stalling. Stop your pride and being driven by excitement. Otherwise, you will continue to lag behind," he said.
The minister was in the company of Rural Electrification Agency (REA) officials who mapped out areas that will be supplied with electricity.
He said many politicians have used lies as a tool of manipulation leading voters to make uninformed decisions which derail the country's development agenda.
"It's high time Ugandans stopped voting out of excitement and short-sightedness because the approach has serious consequences. It derails development and leaves you with a chorus of regrets," he said.
