{UAH} SARAH & AMINA'S STORY- WILL 2019 OPEN A NEW, HUMANE VISTA FOR ISLAM?
SARAH & AMINA'S STORY
Former Irving, TX Police Chief, Larry Boyd's assessment was succinct and heartbreaking; "The one person Amina and Sarah should have been able to turn to for protection...was the one that took their lives."
Said, an Egyptian born Texan resident had a difficult relationship with his two teenage daughters. Before their brutal deaths, they confided in friends that their father would "kill" them, if he was aware of some of their activities. The girls also reportedly told their friends that their consistent bruises were a result of his abuse.
Said was opposed to the 'Americanization' of his two daughters, and restricted their movement and social opportunities. He repeatedly harassed them, spying or taping them without their knowledge, and disciplining them for their infractions. Amina resisted an arranged marriage with a much older friend of her fathers, and Sarah was chastised for being 'too friendly' with customers at the convenience store she worked in after school.
Said's discovery of Amina's boyfriend was the final straw. Amina was afraid her boyfriend would be killed by her father, and refused to mention his names during a beating. After the Said moved the family a way with no warning, the girls fled to a friends house, seeking refuge from their incensed father.
After incessant pleading by their mother, the girls agreed to return home and reconcile with their father. On January 1 2008, under the guise of going out to eat, Said took Amina and Sarah for a ride in his taxi cab, where he allegedly shot both of them to death. Amina was killed by two shots to the chest, and Sarah by 9.
In the 11 years since the murder, Said has remained at large, his whereabouts unknown.
In the comment section, we will be sharing various interviews given by Sara and Amina's friends over the years, to a variety of different media platforms. We invite you to read them, and familiarize yourselves with the stories of the two wonderful girls, their resilience and hope, and to ensure that no other children will be brutally murdered by their parents.
