Mayor Kagimu endorsed by People Power / DP to unseat MP Nambooze – Tension in Mukono
People Power movement lead by its leader the Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu popularly know by his stage name Bobi Wine launched the Mukono municipality Mayor Mr Fred George Kagimu popularly known as 'Festino' as a People Power Candidate for Mukono Municipality to unseat people's government 'information minister' Betty Nambooze Bakireke who doubles as the vice president of the Democratic Party in Buganda region.
Whisper Eye undertsands Nambooze who is the spokesperson for both Dr. Kiiza Besigye's peoples government and the opposition shadow cabinet is in trouble as Bobi Wine decided to join other DP leaders to launch Mayor Kagimu's Parliamentary campaign in Mukono.
Bobi Wine and Mukono team at Kagimu organised dinnerIt is said that People Power team during their meeting at Centenary Park located on Jinja Road, in Kampala made a resolution to cut-off Nambooze's wings by supporting a strong candidate against her in Mukono municipality. They elected a committee of five people to implementing the discission.
Mayor Kagimu seated next to Bobi wineNambooze and Kagimu who were close friends turned into foe immediately after the 2016 elections, during the evictions of Mukono residents who were working along Kampala – Jinji high way and the expansion of Kampala City to Mukono, which Nambooze opposed contrary to Mayor Kagimu's position.
The two issues resulted into a rift between the two to an extent where both went in media attacking each other.
When Mr. Kagimu declared to stand against Hon. Nambooze in 2016, he met a lot of resistance as many sow him as a traitor, and seen as a NRM sponsored politician to fight Nambooze. With the rise of Kyagulanyi now, it seems that odds are changing, and Mr. Kagimu is likely to use Bobi Wine's popularity to defeat Nambooze.
Controversial Mp despite her FDC links her love DP still intactRecently Mukono residents boldly told Nambooze to join Bobi Wine's People Power Movement asking her to withdraw her support for the Besigye's People's Assembly government which she vehemently rejected.
The motor mouthed Nambooze 's back was broken by the SFC soldiers who attacked Uganda's Parliament during 'Togikwatako' debate, and rushed to India for treatment. She is recovering after a period of close to one and-half years.
The battle between Mayor Kagimu and Hon. Nambooze over Mukono municipality seat is one of the big graveyard that awaits Uganda's opposition and if not handled early enough the opposition will feel it's impact on the 2021 general elections.
