Missionary couple returns to Lynchburg after being robbed at knife-point in Uganda
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A missionary couple with ties to Lynchburg was robbed by men with machetes in Uganda.
Mark and Amy Gwartney are Liberty University graduates.
They were in town Sunday to attend services at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
They moved to Uganda in 2008 to serve at Good Shepard's Fold, which is a children's home, school and community development organization.
They say more than $18,000 worth of items, including jewelry, computers, money and even a car, were stolen from them.
The Gwartney's say they appreciate the prayers and donations they've received since the incident.
"The funds to recover what was lost have been given and even above and beyond that," Mark said. "And yet this another way that God has used it it's raising awareness about the work that we do."
The men who did this have still not been arrested in Uganda.
You can donate to their organization here.
