{UAH} Reflection

Reflection: in 1953 Ssekabaka Muteesa II disagreed politically with the then British colonialist governor Sir Andrew Cohen. Cohen responded by deposing and exiling the Kabaka. The people of Buganda carried out massive demonstrations and refused to engage in any of Cohen's progra for over two years. However, no one was killed.

In 1966 Ssekabaka Muteesa II and also the President of Uganda disagreed politically with his Executive Prime Minister, Apollo Milton Obote. Obote responded by sending his brutal forces manned by his right hand Idi Amin Dada to attack the Kabaka's palace, thousands of innocent people were killed, priceless cultural artifacts and other treasures were destroyed. The Kabaka was deposed, the Kingdoms abolished, Buganda properties confiscated, Kabaka's life in exile complicated a d finally poisoned. The constitution overthrown and Buganda ruled under marshal law. Uganda has never been the same since, dictators after dictators, a country which was once very progressive - the pearl of Africa fell from grace to grass. Corruption, nepotism extrajudicial killings and even genocide have been the order of the day.

Yet our scholars and so called "elite", still paint "colonialism was the worst period of Uganda."

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that  we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic  and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
---Theodore Roosevelt
