{UAH} STANDING WITH BOBI WINE

By :- Byamugisha Moses

Am a strong admirer of President Kiiza Besigye (the person and the Idea) for two amongst other strong reasons; (1) His level and style of engagement in our struggle provides hope to the would otherwise be a hopeless political situation that our country has found itself in,the hope that one day Tuliyambala engule.

His message gives us a clear picture of what Uganda could be like after we have returned our power. I have listened to Dr Besigye speak both at big and small gatherings in many years and every time he speaks,he is speaking to me for the first time. He remains a strong patner in this struggle for Change.

The second strong reason (amongst many) am happily an admirer of Dr Besigye is because he is demonstrably a gentleman with a national appeal. I have had the privilege to be on the team that moved with him around the country, not once and not twice.

And like most of you see on television , wherever Besigye goes from Busia to Kisoro, from Arua to Kaabong in Karamoja,he is greeted with all kinds of people many times with gifts and money not because he is needy but as their sign of demonstration for love and support to his efforts.

This element of national character is key because I can state without a shadow of doubt that He is so far the only opposition presidential candidate that has attracted such an overwhelming enthusiastic national appeal . Of course Dr Besigye has additional unique character traits that make him stand out tall and strong.

Ladies and gentlemen for some of us who are concerned about the increasing disunity in our country, divisionism along tribal and regional lines, and the whole idea of how difficult the management of a post Museveni devided Uganda will be, an aspiring president who has a national appeal is the kind that Uganda needs for he or she will eventually be able to rally all nations of this great country towards the national agenda.

It's in this spirit that I stand with Hon Kyagulanyi. Btw for some time now,I have been part of Kyagulanyi's music funbase because of how he has for many years skillfully packaged a very strong political message for Change in his music. He has done great advocacy through music and encouraged many people to stand strong amidst the harsh political situation that we find ourselves in. His songs notably; Freedom,Situka, Tuliyambala Engule and "Uganda" are some of my favorite songs.

Because of his strong message,Hon Kyagulanyi has over time built a large funbase across tribes and generations accross Uganda and beyond. With the help of good brains,Hon Kyagulanyi can easily transform this loyal funbase into actual voters and strong activists for Change. His music fans do not just dance to the beats but most importantly to the message in the songs.

By the time government banned his music shows, these gatherings were enthusiastic political gatherings growing bigger and bigger every where he held a show. Clearly, what one can tell from the response of Ugandans especially my generation is that BobiWine's direct participation in this country's national politics has given us renewed hope and new energy for our struggle for Change.

BobiWine's fans are rightly at the moment not preoccupied with understanding what his position on inflation and GDP is, not even the increasing debt burden or the broken system for social services provision. This is particularly because those are basically symptoms while the main problem remains the fact that the government in power is preoccupied with regime survival politics amidst well documented governance policies and demotivated technocrats.

Colleagues especially my generation, at the end of the day it's not Hon Kyagulanyi who is being shredded, it's us all becuase he is sofa the only one amongst us who has openly declared his ambition to run for Presidency. So if we don't insulate BobiWine against uncharitable and unwarranted attacks,at the end of the day the narrative will be that young people in this country are not just empty talk but also too many for nothing; And that all they can do is sports betting and susbstance abuse which will be unfortunate.

I have had chance to have a codial talk with BobiWine and I can state without an aota of doubt that he is a fair minded gentleman that means well for his country. I refuse the temptation to confuse his personal attributes with the wanting character of some of the elements in the "opposition" that seek to speak for him.

Of course we as a generation that wants Change, do not intend to entirely leave the burden and responsibilities for the leadership of our generation into this crusade for Chang shoulderd by Hon Kyagulanyi songlehandedly, we must now be building equally credible alternatives and this is happening.

Finally,i can imagine that there's going to be many people that will read this article and find it confusing. This is indeed so because given the polarisation in our national politics, they expect me to be writing for "X" against "Y"đŸ˜‚đŸ¤£đŸ˜€.

The difference between me Byamugisha Moses and a number of my colleagues in the opposition is that to them this struggle for Change is a Sprint where as on the other hand I believe that this struggle is a relay race. A relay race is a track and field event in which athletes run a pre-set distance carrying a baton before passing it onto the next runner.

All in all, greetings from Rwenzori region.
 We remain committed to the idea of ;
Championing an inclusive youths-led Change.

Thanks
