THE BULANGE FRACAS. A REGRETTABLE SHAME TO OPPOSITION.

By Kalema Shaban

I spent the better half of yesterday offline, and phones practically off. On getting back online at around 9pm, I was shocked with what I saw, that a group donning People Power trade mark red attempted to attack and physically humiliate and harm Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye. This was unfortunate. I saw some known faces to me and felt betrayed by their acts.
First and foremost over now more than two decades we have condemned the regime for applying rules of unfair play. We all know that violence has been and is a preserve of the regime to flout  the rules of natural justice fair play. This can't be the same applied to people we are swimming with in the same tides.
Without mincing my words, RESPECT is a must if history is to judge us right. We may have fundamental disagreements with Dr. Besigye and or FDC but cannot degenerate to what we all saw happening at Bulange. Let our competition be a contest of ideas and inspiration love that most.
Not all that glitters is gold, overtime the regime has successfully planted it's agents in the opposition ranks but have always been identified through their actions. I want to believe that the young men who started the chaos are regime agents who are aimed at tarnishing and bringing down the people power movement.
TWO) The regime is looking for means of legitimising what happened in Arua as all indicators show that it's a flopped show that is aimed at taming the raising fame of #Bobiwine.
Should the regime succeed in branding people power as a violent movement, they will eventually succeed in the Courts of law.
To all democracy seeking forces, I want to believe that these foolish young men acted in their own and out of excitement.  They must be condemned and reigned on. Ugandans from all shades of life must be respected specifically those we disagree with politically.
We should also be careful by the violent  voluntary acts of some people purportedly in showing some love to their preferred political leaders. What happened at Bulange must be condemned by all without prejudice to the leaders of the people power movement. It's that one element that will distinguish us from the regime and we should not give them room to legitimise the Arua and Bugiri fracas they meted and killed opposition supporters.

What happened at Bulange is regrettable  and doesn't represent the true modus operandi of the people power movement.
