{UAH} BUSOGA STICKS TO SUGAR BILL, PETITIONS SPEAKER

BUSOGA PETITIONS KADAGA
The Kingdom of Busoga led by its Katukiro Dr. Joseph Muvawala has
petitioned to Speaker of Parliament Rebeca Kadaga praying that the
Sugar Bill which the President declined to assent, should be passed
the second time without amendment.
According to them, coffee and cotton are no more in Busoga and the
only lifeline now is the sugar industry.
They are totally opposed to a monopoly or oligopoly of the industry.
They have been supported by MPs from Busoga who were also present.
The Speaker has agreed with them and has said that while other regions
have bananas, cattle, dairy products, Busoga only has the sugar
industry and they have to keep it intact.
She has promised more dialogue on the matter and promised to take them
and the matter to the President.
Another petition was from LC V Chairpersons from Busoga Region. They
wonder why a public university in Bosoga that was promised by
government to start at Namasagali, has not yet commenced.
The Speaker promised to take the matter to the President and to the
Ministry of Education.
All this took place in the Speaker's Chambers at Parliamentary
Building this evening.
