Uganda Airlines has unveiled Captain Michael Etiang as the new chief pilot.
In the communication released by the Airlines, Capt. Etiang who hails from Tororo district in Eastern Uganda will be in charge of ensuring that all pilots are trained and are current with their competence and skills.
Etiang who has over 12000 flying hours has held various managerial and line flying roles that include; Training Manager CRJ (RwandAir), Training Captain Fly540, Jetlink, and most recently Garuda in Indonesia.
The senior pilot has been with RwandAir since 2012 where he is responsible for arranging training programs for pilots flying the Canadian Regional Jet and maintaining a motivated competent crew.
Etiang has a Bachelors Degree in Law and Politics, Ethnic Minorities and the law, Political Evolution in Africa from the School of Oriental and African Studies in University of London. Last week, Parliament approved government's supplementary schedule for an additional Shs280bn to cater for investment costs for the revival of Uganda Airlines. Uganda Airlines will secure four Bombardier CRJ planes each costing $27.7m (Shs102.5bn) and two A330-800neo made by Airbus each costing $108m.
A feasibility study report recently revealed that Uganda loses about $540 million (over Shsh2trillion) annually, in form of higher transport costs or extra charges to passengers originating and terminating at Entebbe International Airport, due to absence of a National Carrier.
