Fw: {UAH} Kenyan tribe that secretly allows same sex marriage.

Bobby;

This article's headline and body really went against what the actual grain of the practice is:

It would have been correct to say: "Kenyan tribe that allows same sex marriage 'without sex' " in my view. It is not a "SECRET" as penned!

Kuria tribe is closely related to the Kisii/Abagusii and the Zanaki both in custom and language. The only difference is that both the Abagusii and Zanaki, barren woman marries another woman and pays dowry (even if the husband is a live or not ..... the one she has married is not the husband's wife), she then splits shamba to "her wife"! Once the kids are born, majority will be the "husband's" and the remainder will be the biological mother's to inherit her side of the shamba/property inclusive of animals! All these children have equal standing in the community.

The "married woman by a woman" is the equivalent to "Hands-maid" (Hawah the Egyptian) that Sarah (as she had reached a non-child bearing age without a child) married and asked Abraham sired Ishmael!

If the husband of the barren woman is alive, he will father the children, if not alive, a paternal cousin shall do the siring and be known in the community as the 'sirer' and not the "father" as we know it in the conventional way.

Why this old woman Gati ran away from where she was married and came to "marry" Boke without ancestral land is anyone's guess!

One cannot carry on an old countryside custom out of its environment and climatic cultural conditions and practices to little mixed urban centre, marry another woman for men to mingle with without laid down customary practices and processes, get the town gigolos impregnate her and expect the AI bull/s to take responsibility of the copulation results!

Days after CNN ran an expose about the shocking lifestyle of the Kenyan night runners, Al-jazeera released a damning masterpiece about a tribe in Migori that allowed marriages of same sex couples.

The documentary shot in Kuria, Migori county shocked many, especially those in churches and mosques. Nyumba Mboke , as it known is a practice by the Kurian community that allowed women to marry each other. However this is done by older barren or widowed women without children, who decide to find a much younger woman to bare children for them.

This practice has been going on for decades, it's not new, residents say. The practice started way back. Older women would marry younger girls and make them sleep with men to sire children who they would later call their own.

A teenager identified as Boke narrated how she found herself living with an older woman called Gati. This was after she fell pregnant while still in school and her father decided to have her undergo FGM and later got her married. Gati, explained why she had to marry the young teenager. She narrated how she faced discrimination after her husband died leaving her without children. She married Boke to make her sire children.

The men involved in making babies in these unions always walk away without any responsibilities. Their tasks is to help the couple sire. Residents say this is not new. The practice does not only take place in Migori but also in the interior parts of luhya.

The government has started workshops to educate the natives of the dangers that come with same sex marriages and FGM.
