{UAH} AFRICANS STAND WITH THE DIRECTION OF TODAYS WIND

Picture: That's me during my UN Volunteer peace-keeping days in Sudan.

God really knows how to expose Africans. Including our activists who claim to desire democracy & the rule of law. Remember how just two years ago the whole of Africa was with Omar el Bashir and forgot the suffering of the people of Sudan? Now look at everybody!
Since 2009 I felt like almost the only person in Uganda (and Africa) publicly complaining about Omar El Bashir. I even got blocked on Twitter in 2016 by Rwanda's President Paul Kagame for raising the matter when Bashir was invited to Kigali (read the opinion piece that he blocked me for in the link below). What Mr. Kagame might not have fully realised was that by welcoming a genocide perpetrator, he was basically dumping to the dustbin his own hard fought global credentials on all matters genocide, and diminishing the global sympathy for his country's people as victims of genocide. A few years down the road, and we are now seeing less and less world leaders attending the annual Rwanda genocide memorial.
At the time of Bashir's 2016 visit to Kigali, the whole continent was against the International Criminal Court (ICC). Everyone was shouting let's pull out. I was trying in vain to ask the ordinary African that "Racism aside, if we quit the ICC, what other deterrent do you have in case your leader starts thinking of slaughtering you en masse?"
Today everyone has made a complete turn-around praising the strength of Sudanese women, celebrating Bashir's fall and calling out the Darfur genocide. Even wagging their finger, warning their own dictators what will also happen to them (Mbu "remember Ghaddaffi and now Omar Bashir"). They are all also adding that "Bashir should be taken to ICC in The Hague".
So what happened?
God has a way of getting all hypocrites to expose themselves at the right time. And platforms like social media are also a public record of those who only stand for the direction of the wind.
The whole continent was literally defending and protecting Bashir's impunity for a decade while complaining of misrule in their own countries and praying for divine intervention. Very few were really thinking about the Sudanese people. Imagine how they felt seeing the whole continent abandon them to side with Omar El-Bashir. These Sudanese people are the ones now taking over power in their country with their own effort, their own determination and their own sacrifice. Of course opportunist external powers are glad to nudge them on but it is a peoples revolution in fact. I call on them to forget the memory of that painful abandonement by fellow Africans. Unlike Libya where revenge on Africans has not yet ended. It even developed into broad daylight slavery.
If we put the late Ghadaffi himself aside for just one second, who in Africa actually supported the people of Libya?
