NAMUTUMBA- The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Mr Patrick Oboi Amuriat, has said his party is not as violent as People Power movement despite its members being threatened, beaten and charged in Court.

People Power is a political pressure group being fronted by Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine.
Mr Amuriat, who held meetings at Namutumba Town Council on Tuesday before addressing a rally in Bugubi Town Council, however, didn't substantiate on People Power's 'violent' nature or FDC's 'calmness'.

"Unlike People Power supporters, who sometimes want to go violent, FDC is nonviolent and all its campaigns are aimed at attaining power nonviolently.
"Much as we are being threatened, beaten and charged in Court, we have remained calm. The NRM Government wants to see a violent FDC which it can imprison but has fortunately found a peaceful one," Mr Amuriat said.
Adding: "What is being done by Mr Museveni is a sign of 'a going government'; even Nelson Mandela (South African anti-apartheid icon) was imprisoned for 27 years but won the presidency."
Mr Amuriat also reiterated that his party will not use firearms to overthrow NRM like Mr Museveni did before he came to power.
However, Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, the People Power Spokesman, in a telephone interview, described Mr Amuriat's allegations as 'unfortunate'.

"If it's true that our brother Amuriat said that, then it's unfortunate. People Power has always emphasized that we shall achieve transition using peaceful and legal means. Even in our meeting with the FDC team led by Dr Besigye, we told them we are not for violence, that's why we are encouraging Ugandans to get their National IDs as opposed to sticks and stones," he said.

Ms Ingrid Turinawe, the party's national mobiliser who doubles as Minister for Internal Affairs in the People's Government, said Mr Museveni thought FDC was going to go to the bush to fight him, 'the reason he uses firearms to put FDC down".

She added that since Mr Museveni wants to see FDC resorting to the bush to capture power, FDC will not do that.

"We noticed Mr Museveni's plans for FDC and decided to change tactics. For us we are saying: 'No Mr Museveni on the ballot paper come 2021 elections'," she said.

Mr Amuriat, who was escorted by FDC leaders from Namutumba District led by Mr Jamal Wante, asked People Power supporters to join FDC for a joint effort to remove Mr Museveni.

"I urge my brothers and sisters who defected from FDC to People Power to return home because you are FDC," he said.
