{UAH} CAN UGANDA'S OPEN DOOR REFUGEE POLICY SURVIVE A DONOR CASH BLOCKADE?
This already disturbing news on stolen refugee funds is getting even more worrying especially for the over one million refugees in Uganda and the thousands of Ugandans who work hard in the humanitarian sector. Receiving refugees is one of the greatest humanitarian actions that any person or community can do for fellow human beings fleeing for their lives from conflict. So it is sad to see that after the UK, and others, Germany has also decided to withhold refugee aid funds after discovering how Uganda's much applauded 'Open door policy for refugees' is in reality an 'Open the money taps' scheme" by a corrupt regime for whom more refugees simply means more donor cash flowing in from international gullible stupid.
That's probably how low the thinking actually gets these days.
The straight face, broad daylight thievery of millions of Euro's and US Dollars intended as humanitarian assistance and it's administration is not new. It has just reached unheard levels.
For some individuals, the tragedy behind refugees is the proverbial manna from heaven. Meaning that they might be quietly willing to see more conflicts in the region so as to make more money from the ensuing refugee tragedy.
It's only when the money is blocked and proper accountability methods implemented that such vile thinking is somehow contained.
Lets be honest. There is a huge professional humanitarian industry that only gets work from human tragedies. But what we are seeing here is almost like taking the little food from inside the stomach of starving refugees.
Can we simply stop happily wallowing in the gutters of greed, heartlessness and thievery with impunity?
