{UAH} DOES FREEDOM OF RELIGION MEAN FREEDOM TO POISON UGANDANS?
The silence over this disturbing American pastor story is quite suspicious. The priest who is said to be literally poisoning more than 50,000 Ugandans publicly with impunity including in Uganda government hospitals, clinics and health centers by making poor locals drink Jik (bleach for clothes) as medicine. The US Embassy is said to have issued public safety alerts about this US citizens dubious activities in Uganda, especially the dangers to public health from his purported "miracle remedy", but local health officials, police, intelligence and the media are seemingly all silent on this case.
What is going on?
And how come this story is coming from overseas (the Guardian newspaper in London) instead of being from our own media that boasts over 250 radio stations, newspapers, TV stations and online publications?
Is this a well connected individual in Uganda, and if yes then who is protecting this person who is likely to be harming or even killing Ugandans with a dangerous detergent?
Apparently the pastor has been investigated in the US before and now Africa seems to be an easy target where he could continue his highly questionable activities with impunity.
Worse still, he has reportedly used a Church network to distribute this bleach poison to other Ugandan pastors so that they in turn could administer the Jik to HIV/AIDS and malaria sufferers around the country, thereby increasing exponentially the scale of the danger to Ugandans lives.
Arresting the situation immediately is now a national emergency priority.
I repeat, over 50,000 Ugandans are already at risk as we speak, and the victims increase every single day that this fraud is left to continue.
For the record, the last time we heard such numbers was during Joseph Kony's Lords Resistance Army insurgency in Acholi, Alice Lakwena's Holy Ghost Movement and the Luweero genocide which has no equal in barbarity in this country.
And impunity also means that the NRM corruption infestation is now a direct accomplice. Colluding in knowingly leaving an individual to contnue killing Ugandans is simply like being the actual murderer of Ugandans by extension.
I remember in the early 2000's the case of a Ugandan doctor/researcher, the late Professor Charles Ssali of the once famous local health facility called Mariandina clinic which was summarily shut down after he came up with clearly far less dangerous "natural nutritional supplements for building the body's immune system". But he had called it an AIDS cure, and was thereby forced to close his clinic even as his patients claimed visible health benefits from the so-called Mariandina supplements.
Recently when Ugandan religious institutions faced the Ministry of Ethics & Integrity under Father Lokodo, they refused to be registered and monitored. What I noticed is that in exchange for being left alone they never offered a single solution to all the concerns and complaints from the general public regarding certain disturbing practices under religious cover. Now it is clear that regardless of religion, all religious institutions should be under licence just like NGO's, and this should be done for public safety. It is the duty of the state to protect life and property in this country. And the religious institutions seem unable to protect themselves from becoming the industry of choice for an increasing number of scandalous conmen and fraudsters using the name of God to defraud poor believers, and abuse the good will of their foreign donors. And now even putting the lives of unsuspecting Ugandans at risk with total impunity.
We have all seen the most despicable things happening under religion in some so-called places of worship. From statues of demons overlooking worshippers, to fake rescucitations, the infamous kibwetere massacre, putting fingers in worshippers private parts with dubious prayers, coercing them to undress and eat grass, bringing dangerous snakes and telling the faithful to handle them, walking on worshippers, constantly stage-managing fake miracles, and now even poisoning the people, all on record and in broad daylight.
Obviously something has gone completely wrong. There is now overwhelming abuse of religious freedoms to now include rampant fraud, Sodom & Ghommora, child sexual abuse by predator priests every month in the news, and now probable poisoning of innocent, unsuspecting citizens.
Some sense of order and sanity needs to be restored in all religious institutions regardless of faith, for the sake of the well-being of the people of Uganda.
