FDC MP Katushabe 'suspended' after hosting Museveni

Barely a fortnight after hosting President Yoweri Museveni at his constituency, Bukonzo West MP, Atkins Katushabe is among the four 'rebel' MPs 'suspended' by Forum for Democratic Change leaders in Kasese.

Other MPs 'suspended' include; Jackson Mbaju Katika of Busongora county south, Winfred Kiiza the district woman member of parliament and Robert Centenary from Kasese municipality.

The Nile Post reports that Kasese FDC Chairman, Saul Maate suspended the lawmakers last week after the MPs reportedly shunned district meetings.

Katusabe is said to have been close to Maate until last month when he hosted President Museveni in Karambi sub-county, Kasese district.

Earlier Centenary had lobbied for cash worth Shs 200 million to cater for widows who lost their husbands during the clashes between the central government and Rwenzururu in December 2016.

As for Mbaju he reportedly supported the motion to split Kasese district against the wishes of his party.

Maate told The Nile Post that the change in behavior of the four MPs had forced him to take the decision.

He added that the FDC can now be proud of the two legislators who welcomed their president saying the other four possibly they have got their own ways.

He advised the four members of parliament to keep enough money when they still have chance to get some, because according to him they will not make it back to parliament in 2021.

He said they had already identified candidates to replace the four MPs.
