Thieves broke into our local hospital in Woolwich and ransacked the Children's ward, ferrying away most of the toys and computer games. Truly sickening !!!

QE Hospital calling for donations after 

The children's ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital has been 'ransacked' and they are now desperately seeking donations.

Last weekend an Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Wii, and other games and DVDs were stolen from the Safari Ward, leaving the poor children with nothing.

The ward treats hundreds of children every year and has around 20 beds, which are in constant demand.

They treat children with medical conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy, as well as orthopaedic conditions, and minor surgery such as dentistry.

There is also a big playroom, which is much adored by the patients, especially when they are poorly.

Safari ward also has a separate parents' sitting room, school room with a teacher during the week, a teenagers room and the "Snoozlem Room" a special place for children to relax and play.

The hospital is now looking for any replacements or donations that would be suitable for the ward.

People have flocked to social media to pledge their help and donate their old toys and equipment, in order to get the ward back up and running as quickly as possible.

Bromley psychic, Sally Cudmore, will be holding a trolley appeal at Asda in Charlton on May 15 and is asking for anybody that also has any second hand items they would like to donate to get involved.

Caroline Pettican, a Community Colleague at Asda in Charlton, said: "I saw the appeal go out on Facebook and Sally contacted me asking if I could support. So we put out an appeal on Facebook regarding a trolley collection.

"Public support and the offer of donations has been amazing and just goes to show what a community can do when they pull together and I'm glad myself and Asda could be involved.

"Asda Charlton are also going to donate some games and books to show their support."

To make a donation directly to the hospital, you are advised to call the Play Coordinator at Safari ward, Carol, on 02088365440 and she will help you arrange a drop off.

Safari Tiger Ward sister Bethan Williams said: "The playroom is really important for children and families as it allows them to have some fun and take their mind off their illness.

"Staff are as vigilant as possible but sadly things do sometimes go missing.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has offered to donate items to the playroom – we are always grateful for games consoles and games, universal remote controls, DVDs (appropriate for all ages) and for the younger children plastic toys that can be wiped clean."
