{UAH} TRUMP : "I don't do cover-ups," President Trump said

 During a highly unusual appearance in the Rose Garden on Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced that he would not work with congressional Democrats as long as they persist in investigating him.

 

Just before he appeared in front of reporters, Trump stormed out of an infrastructure meeting with Democratic leaders, including Speaker Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Two Democratic sources with knowledge of the meeting told NBC News that Trump arrived late to the meeting and expressed dismay at comments Pelosi had made earlier in the day, calling her remarks inconsiderate.  

 

Trump publicly slammed Pelosi for saying "we believe the president is engaged in a cover-up."  "This whole thing was a take-down attempt of the president of the United States," Trump said. 

 

Pelosi later told reporters that Democrats had gone to the White House to discuss infrastructure and in the "spirit of bipartisanship to find common ground with the president." 

 

Sen. Schumer pointed out that "there were investigations going on three weeks ago when we [first] met, and he [Trump] still met with us."

 

On the Rachel Maddow Show Wednesday, Schumer theorized that the president's tantrum had a cause:  "The level of concern and agitation in the president's own self has risen because of the last two days ofcourt cases," he said.

 

Rep. Dan Kildee, on MSNBC this afternoon, said Americans will pay the price of this standoff. "[The president] is not punishing Congress by not working on infrastructure, he's punishing hardworking Americans who depend on infrastructure for their livelihood. What he's saying is that the American people don't deserve 21st century infrastructure because he doesn't like the fact that Congress is investigating some of the aspects of his administration."

Speaker Pelosi, for her part, said she has the president in her thoughts: "I pray for the president of the United States and I pray for the United States of America."
