Unlike Mao, Mahogany Two Willies Bukenya seems to be vigorously defending any  divorce settlement his wife will get from him. Two Willies is a smart cookie, and I dont think he will allow his wife to asset strip him. He will put a fight. He needs it, what with having about 10 wives or mistresses and no more largesse coming from his former benefactor Kayibanda..

"I'm not a priest to live without sex" — Bukenya accepts divorce

Former Vice President Prof Gilbert Bukenya has accepted to grant divorce to his wife Dr Margaret Musoke who dragged him to High Court Family Division seeking nullification of their 45-year-old marriage over alleged string of extra-marital affairs dating as early as 1982.

In response to the petition filed by his wife, Bukenya through his lawyers revealed that the two amicably agreed to separate in 2003.

In her application, Dr Musoke accused Bukenya of abandoning their marital home in Ntinda, Kampala. She accused Bukenya of endless instances of adultery including with singers Irene Namubiru and Princess Sheila Nvannungi among others.

"The respondent has deserted your petitioner at the family/ matrimonial home, engaged in endless instances of adultery and infidelity and subjected your petitioner to endless distress and abuse amounting to cruelty", she stated in the application.

In his defence, Bukenya stated that celibacy was not one of the terms they agreed upon when making an agreement to live separate lives in 2003 and court will not make him one (celibate) since he is not a priest.

He added that he handed over two posh residential houses to his wife as per the agreement and he is not ready to lose part of any other property to her.

"After the mutual agreement to stay separate I did not become celibate and I have never lived like one," Bukenya stated admitting to the accusations of adultery.

He added that Dr Musoke's claim for part of his Garuga estate is ill advised since her contribution was 'minimal'. He added that his other property in Kakira, Wakiso town, country home and farm, support the children of his first wife  Stella Njuba with whom he jointly laboured with long before he met Dr Margaret.

"The petitioner did not contribute anything to the purchase and development of land in Garuga, Katomi as the same is the property of the respondent's friend, Bill Bertrand he has had for 40 years through his profession as a medical doctor. The respondent's contribution and ownership is minimal," he said.

Bukenya further said that he is not seeking part of any property he helped his wife develop.

"The respondent knows that the petitioner has a commercial building in Gayaza town and other properties she shared from her parents, among others. The respondent is a retired pensioner who would also wish to have a share in the petitioner's properties to which he contributed but will not burden his wife who is also a pensioner," he said.

Bukenya and wife were joined in the Holy Matrimony on September 21, 1974, at St. Augustine Chapel in Makerere University, Kampala. The two have three children; Richard Mutawonga Bukenya, 45, Georgina Nabukenya Bukenya, 42, and Gilbert Roy Bukenya Kamoga, 37.
