{UAH} JUSTICE FOR OKOT- SHOT ON THE ORDERS OF KAYIBANDA IN AMOLATAR
*ADVOCATE SHOT ON RDC LILIAN EYAL'S ORDERS IN AMOLATOR DISTRICT.*
The victim, *Okot Pbitek Junior,* an advocate says he was shot on the RDC and GISO's orders on Wednesday, the 22nd of May 2019, at about 8pm. This is his story.
There has been an ongoing eviction operation on lake Kyoga for some years by the UPDF, however, the situation went out of hand when the operation extended into the villages, about one and a half kilometers. The soldiers tortured people, raided houses, raped women and girls, many people were affected by this kind of impunity, and as an advocate, I needed information to handle this matter in public interest litigation. On Sunday, I announced on the radio that I will be meeting victims of this eviction on Wednesday in Amolatar town. On Wednesday, there was a heavy deployment in Amolatar, our meeting venue was sealed off that nobody could even get closer and my home town surrounded too. I guess they were looking for me.
When I received this information, I decided to stop in Kaberamaido, where I spent the whole day. At about 6pm, I decided to go back home to pick some of my belongings. I used an inner road because the main roads had been sealed off. On my way to town, I was informed by my driver that there were people following me on a motor bike, and that I should get back on the main road for safety.
I had initially seen these motor bikes at the petrol station where I had parked, they were occupied by the GISO of Amolatar and the NRM chairperson - Amolatar district. They followed me for a while till I joined the main road. I drove a few meters away and found a car parked in the middle of the road I was to take. The occupants were; RDC Lilian Eyal, her body guard, driver and the OC Okello Ochan. The RDC shouted, "shot him"
The body guard jumped out of the car with a gun, fired a bullet in the air, then aimed the gun at my car, I struggled to get out of the car with one hand raised up, the second bullet penetrated my palm. I jumped out, started running. He fired more bullets, one hit my kneecap and opened it, the others penetrated my right thigh, I fell down and laid flat to give him an impression that I was dead. He came close, stepped on me, went back to car, saluted the RDC and said he is dead. He jumped into the car, and they drove off. All this happened in a close range of about 5 meters.
After they had left, people gathered around me, I was put in my car and rushed to Amolatar health center 4 but there was no doctor to attend to me, we proceeded to Amai hospital where I had an operation, 3 bullets were removed from my thigh, after which I was transfered to Kumi Orthopedic hospital.
I was told that after the incident, the RDC parked her car at police where she recorded a statement that I had organised a rally in a market, she also said that the victim sustained minor wounds.
All these are lies.
