To Fuck Or Be Fucked, Kenya Women's Narrow Path To Political To Power

As the debate of Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris's futile attempt to make Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko sense in reducing politics of cash handouts to young people dies down, it is the toxic response by Sonko that got me so hooked up.

To those new to this story, Sonko dismissed Passaris and went beyond. He claimed, unashamedly, that Passaris was ready to have sex with him if it meant getting money.

In 2017, Passaris needed money to capture her current seat. She was up against a more moneyed incumbent, Rachael Shebesh, now a Chief Administrative Secretary in Uhuru regime.

Political parties in Kenya do not give Women Leaders money for campaigns. Sometimes, even getting the ticket is a tall order.

Passaris's desperation to have money is one of the challenges women political aspirants are facing now. Women disproportionately have little to no financial muscle as they seek elective seats. Men, especially moneyed men, demand a transaction.

Stories abound of women political aspirants resorting to the time tested ploy – the vagina – as their last straw. Sex is now a tool. And that's a sad thing.

Be forewarned. On the Passaris saga, don't fully believe Governor Mike Sonko. He is a pathological liar. He is a vulgar opportunistic with no decency or shame. Passaris may have asked him for money, innocently.

Be that as it may, Women face stark choices. Even worse are the women seeking nomination slots. Aware that these slots can be fished out anyhow, the desperation to clinch a slot often gets to a point the only card remaining is the sex card.

It is a long, treacherous road but Kenyan Women must fight to end this dehumanizing pathology. Fight harder, women!
