 Theism and Atheism ~ The Ultimate Debate

Agnostic Atheism, an in Depth Analysis: many atheists like to create ambiguity in order to mask the action taking place within atheism.

Thomas Huxley was the first person to coin the term "agnostic" in 1869. He said agnosticism is not compatible with atheism nor theism. He outright called it "immoral" to form beliefs about objective truth claims without objective testable evidence to support such a claim.

So why then do modern atheists call themselves "agnostic atheist" if Huxley said agnosticism was incompatible with atheism? Wikipedia defines "agnostic atheists" as those who "do not hold a belief in the existence of any deity and...claim that the existence of a deity is either unknowable in principle or currently unknown in fact." That sounds like an agnostic to me, not agnostic atheist. Are these two terms indistinguishable? If not, then what is the TANGIBLE difference between the two? If there are no differences, Occam's Razor requires us to remove "atheist" as the unnecessary term to just say "agnostic" because it means the same thing.

But there IS a difference. The "agnostic atheist," while not holding a belief in God, HOLDS a disbelief in God. As all dictionaries explain,

It violates the laws of non-contradiction to hold a disbelief in God and lack a disbelief in God simultaneously. Therefore, one is either atheist or agnostic. If one is an atheist, there are only levels of weak disbelief or strong disbelief. Otherwise, one is simply an agnostic with no disbelief.

This is the reason why atheists are always contrasted with agnostics in all professional polls. There is not poll with the category "agnostic atheist," as that would be absurd.

"Agnostic atheism" is neither a hybrid nor comprehensive description. It is an oxymoron and an absurdity.
