Boris Johnson officially becomes Prime Minister - and starts instant Remain purge
The Queen confirmed Boris Johnson as Prime Minister despite protesters trying to block his journey to Buckingham Palace - a taste of the political storm to come
Boris Johnson has officially become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, launching his time with fireworks as Remainers were purged from his top team.
The Tory leader kicked off a full-blown Cabinet reshuffle today after the Queen formally summoned him to form a government.
In a perfect metaphor for the political storm to come, Greenpeace protesters joined hands on The Mall in a bombshell bid to block his journey to Buckingham Palace.
But moments later he was officially declared as the new leader of the United Kingdom. The news was first confirmed on the 10 Downing Street Twitter profile.
The 55-year-old was due to give a speech at 10 Downing Street at around 4pm watched by staff, acolytes and his 31-year-old girlfriend Carrie Symonds - who stood proudly on the steps of 10 Downing Street to watch.
There was fury as he invited hard Brexiteer MP Priti Patel - sacked over off-the-books meetings in Israel - and former Vote Leave chief Dominic Cummings - th back into the fold as he ramps up his threat of a No Deal Brexit .
And Cabinet Remainers David Gauke, Rory Stewart , deputy PM David Lidington and Chancellor Philip Hammond all promptly resigned to fight a disastrous No Deal.

Mr Johnson met the Queen shortly after Theresa May visited Buckingham Palace and gave her resignation - with a coded warning to her successor.
The outgoing Prime Minister, who left with husband Philip by her side, told MPs at her final PMQs that politics is not about "eloquent speeches and media headlines" - it's about real people.
But in a perfect metaphor for her leadership, she was forced to break off her speech to respond to a protester shouting "stop Brexit!"
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "The Right Honourable Theresa May MP had an Audience of The Queen this afternoon and tendered her resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.''

Despite a lifetime of lies, gaffes and scandal the Old Etonian beat rival Jeremy Hunt by 92,154 votes to 46,656 in the Tory leadership election yesterday.
Tonight he will summon remaining Cabinet ministers to his lavish new Commons office to discover whether they have been promoted or sacked.
New ministers are expected to be announced from 7pm.
His election after weeks of vicious blue-on-blue conflict sparks a mad scramble to fulfil his "do or die" promise to leave the EU on October 31.
Critics say his Brexit policy of tearing up Britain's 585-page deal with the EU - including the Irish backstop - is impossible to achieve before Halloween .
So as well as entering talks with the EU, he is planning to ramp up No Deal planning within days of taking power.

Tory MPs including resigning Cabinet ministers are set to form an 'awkward squad' to block the new Prime Minister ramming through No Deal against the will of Parliament.
Tory MP Charles Walker begged members: "Can we be kinder to the next prime minister than we've been to the current prime minister?"
But anti-No-Deal David Lidington, who quit as deputy PM, said: "I'm now relishing the prospect of speaking & campaigning freely."
When he won yesterday Mr Johnson admitted: "I know that there will be people around the place who will question the wisdom of your decision."
But he said it was now time to "deliver Brexit, unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbyn ".
He admitted "deliver, unite, defeat" spelt the word "dud" before adding: "They forgot the final E my friends.
"I say to the doubters, dude! We are going to energise the country! We are going to get Brexit done."
Mr Johnson was crowned at a grand ceremony in Westminster watched by dad Stanley and his siblings Rachel, a journalist, and Jo, a government minister.
But there was no sign of new girlfriend Carrie Symonds, who is tipped to slink into No10 through a side door at a later date.
His personal life now faces an intense spotlight - with journalists not even knowing how many children he has - after the pair were caught having a massive row at the 31-year-old's south London home.
