{UAH} PARLIAMENT CANNOT LEGISLATE AGAINST ITSELF
MPS CANNOT SHOOT THEMSELVES
AT THE PROMULGATION OF 1995 CONSTITUTION, THE PRESIDENT COMPLAINED
THAT GOVERNMENT HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN POWER TO COMPULSORILY ACQUIRE LAND
TO GIVE IT TO FOREIGN INVESTORS. EVER SINCE THIS HAS NEVER BEEN
ACHIEVED.
IN 2005, AMONG THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS WAS THE ONE GIVING THE
PRESIDENT POWER TO DISSOLVE PARLIAMENT AND CALL ELECTIONS EVEN BEFORE
THE EXPIRY OF THE FIVE YEAR TERM OF THE PRESIDENT AND PARLIAMENT. IT
WAS REJECTED BY PARLIAMENT BECAUSE IT WAS TO THE DISADVANTAGE OF THE
MPS.
THE OTHER AMENDMENT WAS MOOTED BY THE CAUCUS OF ALL POLITICAL PARTIES,
WHICH WAS LIKE IPOD, WHERE AN EXPELLED MP OR COUNCILLOR WOULD LOSE HIS
SEAT. THE MPS REJECTED IT.
I ASSURE YOU, EVEN THESE NEW PROPOSALS WILL NOT PASS WITHOUT
AMENDMENTS AND MODIFICATIONS.
HAPPY JUMA
