July 16, 2019 (SSNA) — South Sudan's information minister, Micheal Makuey Lueth, said that those who claim the young nation is not a happy country should hang themselves.
Micheal Makuey outburst came weeks after a report published in many media outlets said South Sudan is one of the least happy countries in Africa.
In a July 11, 2019 Tweet, the information minister says people who believe South Sudan is not a happy nation should hang themselves. Micheal also claimed that the war-wracked nation has enough trees to handle the number of people who he wants to hang themselves.
"Who said that we are not happy?" Micheal asks.
"For those who are not happy, the simple way is to hang yourself. There are too many trees in South Sudan," he says.
His message seems to catch the attention of some South Sudanese prominent writers and bloggers with some labeling the minister as "mad man." The message also infuriated many people on social media.
"This is a message from a mad man, not a message from a national minister. This man is clearly suffering from 1983-2005 wartime trauma," Duop Chak Wuol, the editor-in-chief of the South Sudan News Agency (SSNA) wrote on his Facebook wall.
Duop's post seems to suggest that Micheal Makuey is suffering from the trauma of the 1983-2005 war between then Southern Sudan and Khartoum's government.
Micheal is known for saying things that sometimes infuriated people. Days after civil war broke out in December 2013, the minister asked all media outlets not to interview any rebel or people associated with the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO).
