{UAH} This week, yesterday in 1988

This week, yesterday in 1988, the US shot down an Iranian passenger plane, over Iranian territory in the Persian Gulf, killing 290 people. The missiles that brought the plane down were fired from USS Vincennes, a year later, the captain of the ship, William C. Rogers, was awarded America's Legion of Merit medal for his "outstanding service."
