{UAH} Gun Violence in US - and finger pointing

Folks;

A mass murder is defined as killing of four or more people at once. By this basic meaning, US has witnessed at least 253 mass killings since the year began.

One would think that with this certainty in the frequency of mass shootings, a consensus would have been reached by now to nail down the causes of these killings. But again, one would be widely wrong.

In US, every mass killing is viewed in the lens of political talking point. Hear me out:

A Democrat will use a mass shooting to renew calls for gun control, or at least tightened background checks on prospective gun buyers. A Republican, on the other hand, will use mass killing to castigate personal failings, including poor parenting and social influences such as video games.

So, a mass shooter has some appeal to both sides of the political divide.

That's why someone, like Edward Mulindwa, could come into this forum, and blame the Democratic leadership in Chicago for the recent killings in that city. In this particular incident, Mr. Mulindwa is conveniently forgetting that just about a year ago, he repeatedly lectured us here how President Trump had put an end to gun violence in Chicago!

In any case, the blame game in gun violence is larger than one individual; it's been used as a political weapon since American descended into a killing field over a century ago.

A brief lull in violence is not evidence that a particular leader has managed to stop violence. It's akin to praising Jesus when something beneficial comes your way, but you don't blame Him when you experience hardship.

A benevolent force that brings peace and quiet does not disappear during hard times. Dark forces that cause pain and suffering are always lurking around, waiting for an opportunity.

That's what the branch of science called psychology teaches us: we all have diseased minds. Some of us are prone to violence, or some other obsession, such as food, sex or substance abuse. Know your mania and watch your back.
