The ISIS fighter known as Jihadi Jack has been stripped of his British citizenship, it has tonight emerged.

The Muslim convert, named Jack Letts, declared himself an "enemy of Britain" after fleeing his home to fight in Syria.

The 24-year-old had held dual UK and Canadian citizenship but now the Home Office has reportedly torn up his UK passport.

Letts was captured by Kurdish authorities and begged to return to the UK, insisting he had "no intention of blowing up Britons".

Letts, who converted to Islam at 16, is now one of around 120 dual nationals who have been stripped of their British citizenship since 2016.

The man travelled from Oxford to Syria in 2014 and married an Iraqi woman.

Earlier this year, his parents John Letts and Sally Lane were convicted of funding terrorism by sending their son money.

The couple were spared jail after sending him £223 and attempting to wire another £1,500.

The Home Office does not comment on individual cases, but a spokesperson told Mail on Sunday: "Decisions on depriving a dual national of citizenship are based on substantial advice from officials, lawyers and the intelligence agencies and all available information.

"This power is one way we can counter the terrorist threat posed by some of the most dangerous individuals and keep our country safe."

As a result, Letts is now the responsibility of the Canadian government.

It is reported that the Canadian government are unhappy with the development.

A spokesman said he had "very little to do with Canada".

Jack's parents are yet to comment on the news.

Speaking after their conviction, the couple, from New Hinksey, Oxford, said: "Jack is still a British citizen and we have pleaded with the government to help us bring him to safety, even if that meant that he might be prosecuted in the UK.

"If there is evidence he has committed a crime, then he should be tried."

They faced trial at the Old Bailey.
