40,000 seater stadium fully equipped for international standards..This offer came after a series of lobbying from the acholi community in the UK and acholi MPs..
All was left for work to start was endorsement from the ministry if Education and Sports a requirement asked by the Football club.
The NRM government then looked the other was. They politised the issue because 2016 elections was at the door.. They said its being championed by the opposition simply because the LC5 and other leaders heading the project were mostly FDC n DP which was obvious since NRM didn't win many seats in the north during 2011 election. They said its campaign strategy by opposition.
The Ministry refused the offer and Stock city withdrew.
To cover up, the government then said they are going to construct a regional stadium in Lira " AKII BUA Olympic stadium a 30,000 seater stadium with all the equipment for sports'",,.. 1.2 billion shillings set aside for work to start.
However ..to date only a small pavilion of 100 people capacity has been erected.
The ministry has withdrawn after the election.. Saying each district should construct their stadium..
