{UAH} MEDICAL CHECK-

Today I had my regular health check again- this time they wanted to check my bones- so I was at the rheumatology clinic. As I have been on steroid treatment for a while,  my doctor wanted to find out the effect, if any, the steroids have had on my bones. Apparently, steroids have a bad side effect on some patients, making their bones brittle and easily breakable- so any small fall results in a broken bone. In my case, my results showed my bones were in excellent condition and had not been affected at all by the steroids.

 

But the real story of my visit to the doctor today is that for over 10 years I have been treated for this condition, and I have been seen by  many doctors and consultants of different races, but I had never been seen by an African doctor. This was the first time, and a female doctor at that. Very beautiful girl I must  say, may be in 35-38 year age range. I think she is from Zimbabwe.

 

She was really friendly, talkative and jokey. I had to lie on a bed underneath an x-ray machine at the top that would roll slowly from my feet to my head, taking pictures of all my bones.

 

 Before we started,  I was startled when she told me to take my clothes off. Take my clothes off, why I asked? So you can lie down on that bed under the white machine, she said. . I had actually done this type of x-ray before, but the doctors always made sure another person was in when they asked me to take my clothes off. But this time, she didn't bother asking another person to attend, so I had a very wonderful x-ray.

 

It was a good relief for me that she gave me a good bill of health. Unfortunately, I gained weight, rather than lose it as I had planned last time I reported on my health two months ago. Then I was 90 Kgs, but today I am 92.5 Kgs- a net gain of 2.5 kgs. No good.
