{UAH} A PROSTITUTE WHO BECAME A STRONG LEADER!

The saying that whatever a man can do, a woman can do better is true in the case of Ching Shih, who emerged as the most powerful female pirate who commanded one of the largest pirate armies. On today's History Files, we will see how Ching Shih rose from being a prostitute to becoming one of the most powerful female pirates to have ever sailed!

It may be hard to believe but the most powerful female pirate ever lived was a Chinese prostitute before she rose to power. Even though Ching Shih was a prostitute, she still married the leader of the Red Flag Fleet. Her brave husband passed away and she bravely took over 70,000 fearsome pirates. That made her to command one of the most formidable pirate fleets in China during the early 1800s.

After taking over the fleet, she knew that sooner or later, the pirates would try to overthrow her because of her gender, so she remarried. She got married to her dead husband's right hand man and after the marriage, she smartly appointed her new husband as the captain of the fleet. Her new husband, Chang Pao was an illiterate unlike her and was very easy to manipulate which made him the perfect person to be put in charge.

Chang Pao was seen as the leader of the fleet but Chong Shih ran the whole show. She made her husband proclaim that all attacks by the fleet must be approved by her else, there would be beheadings. She used her position to protect her fellow women when he made Chang Pao to formulate a policy that demanded decapitation of fleet members who raped female captives.

Her leadership made the made the Red Flag Fleet unrelenting and unstoppable. Afterall, no other fleet could compete with the men under the control of a woman. 😃
