Two killers on a motorbike have stabbed a senior opposition figure to death in the latest in a wave of murders and kidnappings of government critics in Rwanda.

Syldio Dusabumuremyi, 42, was the sixth FDU-Inkingi party member to have been killed or "disappeared" in the past three years, with nine others languishing in jail accused of "terrorism" in the repressive east African state.

Victoire Ingabire, the FDU-Inkingi leader, told The Times that the latest death last Monday was part of a state-sponsored campaign of terror intended to bolster President Kagame's autocratic rule.
