{UAH} Some people want to kill me, says Kayihura

The former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura has claimed that there are some people who want to kill him.

Speaking on Bukedde radio's 'Ekili Atabaala' program on Monday, Gen Kayihura said that there's a group of people who do not like him and they are doing everything to end his life.

He did not reveal their names.

"These people have been tarnishing my name even when i was still heading the Police. They accused me of committing several atrocities including promoting kidnaps and murders across the country. They used to shout my name but even after my departure. The same crimes still exist but I do not hear anyone blaming my successor Ochola. These people want to kill me," he said.

Last Friday, the United States Government issued travel and economic sanctions against Kayihura and his immediate family members.

They accused him of gross violations of human rights under Section 7031(c) of the FY 2019 Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, according to US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.

Speaking about the sanctions, Kayihura said the USA accusations against him are false because he never did anything wrong as a Police Chief, a position he served from 2005 to 2018.

"This is not only absolutely false but outrageous and infuriating, especially that these accusations and decisions have been made without according me an opportunity to respond to them, whereby I would give evidence to the contrary. The United States Government was known as a government that believed in due process, rule of law and democracy," he said.

"In fact, they should be thankful that i managed to professionalize the Uganda Police. I reject completely the characterization of the Uganda Police Force as some criminal outfit that I led. Under my tenure, we grew the force to almost 40,000 people and introduced a number of departments to serve the public better."

He further disclosed that he owns no property in the United States or anywhere else outside Uganda as alleged the the USA government

"I do not own and have never owed any property in the United States, or anywhere else outside Uganda. I do not have any bank accounts outside my country, Uganda. The insinuations in the statement that I could own any property outside Uganda are totally fabricated and malicious. The freezing of my so-called assets therefore, is comical.

"When i was still the Police Chief, i presented the list of properties to the Inspector General of Government [IGG]. The biggest investment i have is is my farm of goats at my country home in Kasagama."
