{UAH} WBK- FREAKONOMICS AND CRIME !
I'm conflicted. I'm reading this book, FREAKONOMICS- there is a chapter in there,'where have all the criminals gone?', and it talks about the 1973 controversial theory linking Roe v. Wade case in USA to a massive crime drop. The Supreme Court redefined life when they decided Roe V Wade, and allowed women to abort. In short it says that if a parent is a murderer, he or she should be encouraged to abort to safe the world another would be murderer. In the Ugandan context, it means that there would probably be less crime(kidnappings and murders now) if the Sobis, the kitatas, e.t.c weren't born in the first place. There is a belief that unwanted kids grow up and become a danger to the society!
For the record, I am not for abortion (only because of my Islamic beliefs),but I wouldn't judge those who do it as long as it's early on and causes no suffering to the fetus. I am for quality of life for both the mother and the fetus.
Lastly,I've seen a lot of anti-abortion protests on TV in USA- It's always men holding the posters. How about putting a condom on before having sex? How about thinking about someone else beside your own feel good moment? In the Ugandan context, I request the govt to enrol ladies, such as sister Nulu Naluyombya(founder of the GO-GIRL chapter), to go around the schools teaching our adolescents, not only about motivational stuff, but sex education too-subjects like, 'condom use to avoid diseases and unwanted babies', abortion and its consequences, vasectomies,e.t.c. Our population is getting out of control!
