{UAH} Amin a Hero? Have your say!

Meanwhile here is one Ugandans take.
By Dr Omwami Kaleebi MD
The bringing up Idi Amin, this Independence day, as a patriot and hero has dampened my spirits.

For those of us who were robbed of childhood innocence, growing up in fear, being forced to watch firing squads, never seeing some of our relatives, because they were made to disappear... The list is long and gruesome.

I could never forget the army trucks driving past our home at night, while we cowered in complete darkness, nevertheless, wide awake, hearing the voices of women and children wailing in the backs of those army green tarpaulin covered trucks. How could I forget the rippling of endless rounds of automatic rifle fire that followed, about ten minutes later, and went on for half an hour, almost every night. The trucks would return in silence from the army shooting range at Nkalange, escorted by three or four army green Jeeps.

Every morning human bodies would be floating in the waters of the Nile. We had to fetch water upstream of that. We had no piped water.

Now tell the child who heard and saw that, and cried until no more tears came out of his fearful little face that Idi Amin was good, except for few failings!
