Busia Senator Amos Wako banned from entering US over corruption

- The senator, his wife Flora Ngaira and son Julius Wako have been barred from setting foot in the US

- America said it had substantial information to link the the former attorney general and his family to graft activities

- US Secretary of State Micheal Pompeo said the directive to ban the senator will send a strong signal against corruption in Kenya The government of the United States of America (USA) has banned Busia Senator Amos Wako from entering the country. In a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, the senator, his wife Flora Ngaira and son Julius Wako were barred from setting foot in the US over "significant corruption".

The statement signed by Secretary of State Micheal Pompeo said the American government had enough evidence and credible information Wako and his family have been involved in graft. ''Today, the Department designates former Kenyan attorney general Amos Sitswila Wako due to his involvement in significant corruption,'' ''This designation is made under Section 7031(c) of the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, 2019 (Div. F, P.L. 116-6), as carried forward by the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2020 (Div. A, P.L. 116-59).'' ''Section 7031(c) provides that, in cases where the Secretary of State has credible information that officials of foreign governments have been involved in significant corruption, those individuals and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry into the United States,'' Pompeo said in the statement.
