{UAH} REMEMBERING MPONGO LOVE

Wuod Rongo‎Rhumba lyrics(parole de chanson)

·

She had a charming beauty and popularly known as the tigress of soft soprano. But even more importantly, she managed to become a successful musician despite being disabled. There this an anecdote about her when she toured Moroto, Uganda in 1976. That the performance was really good that the then Governor of Moroto asked her out for that night, but she defiantly rejected the invitation and said: "If it's about money, I have the money". The governor, infuriated and ashamed, left the show.
What I like about the musicians of dem days is their high level of integrity and dignity. They were not money-hungry like what we experience in our today's artists. Sadly, we lost Aflirida Mpongo on 15th Jan 1990 in Gabon after a short stint with cerebral meningitis. Six days later, 21st Jan, her mentor Empopo Loway also passed away. To me , this was the toughest moment for Congolese Music fraternity because its the same period (12th Oct. 1989) we lost Franco Luambo Makiadi.
