Ontario: One dead, thousands without power amid freezing rain

Southern Ontario is being slammed by a powerful storm that has brought freezing rain and ice pellets to much of the province to start December, making for dangerous travel conditions.
At least one person has died on the roads, according to the OPP. Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said on Twitter that there had been a fatal crash on the eastbound QEW in the Jordan Road area of the Niagara region Sunday morning. The area is closed for an investigation and Schmidt said there was freezing rain in the area at the time.

The freezing rain, with ice pellets in some areas, began before dawn for parts of the southwest, spreading to cover much of the region and the western Golden Horseshoe, with icy roads widespread and travel not recommended.
© Provided by The Weather Network In the skies, Pearson Airport is reporting numerous delayed flights, with several arrivals cancelled outright. Across the province, some 32,000 Hydro One customers were without power, around two thirds of those in the London area, as ice-laden tree branches came down on power lines.
