{UAH} IDI AMIN, THE AFRICAN FREE TRADE AREA & THE GLOBAL BLACK ECONOMY.

Picture: Idi Amin having a chat before he took the floor of the OAU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 1973.

In 1973, at the height of the struggle for African liberation, African Unity & the Civil Rghts Movement fighting for the freedom and emancipation of black people in America, Idi Amin formulated the seeds for a continent-wide African Free Trade area, and the foundation of a global black economy.

"Our deliberations would be incomplete without discussing steps to improve our economic relations. The success of the African Trade fair of Nairobi in 1972 was a pointer to how much we can offer one another. Let us not erect trade barriers between our countries but rather promote free trade among ourselves. And only impose tarrifs in dealing with area's outside our continent. In this regard, let us also be mindful that we have not considered the full potential that Africa has beyond this continent. The over 30 million African Americans in the USA, the 20 million in the Carribean, the 20 million in Brazil, and the 10 million others elsewhere around the world, together they are our natural wealth that Africa has hardly considered networking with on local and international trade & development." - Excerpt from speech by His Excellency Al-Hajji Field Marshal President Idi Amin Dada to African leaders at the Organization of African Unity (OAU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 25th May 1973.
