{UAH} IT APPLICATIONS AND TRAINING
Dr Paul Semalulu/ Dr Bwanika,
I have had no end of trouble with preparing my notes for a three day training course for managers I am going to run beginning Monday. I have my notes ready, but the training has to be done as a Power Point Presentation. My knowledge of Power Point is very limited, but to make it worse, my office sent a technician to install another computer screen on my desk- they say with two screens, I can be able to work on many applications simultaneously- ie work on Power Point, Word, Spreadsheet and Internet, I have really struggled, but have atlast managed to complete my Power Point Presentation, ready to present it on Monday.
It is very frustrating when you are not up to speed when many employers now expect an employee to be very competent in IT skills. It is not so long ago when I was using flip charts to train, but those days are now gone. It seems also the days of having a secretary are also gone. Now you are expected to be a walking office in effect, a jack of all traders.
For someone who has never had any formal training on IT and Computers, I am chuffed to bits about what I have been able to achieve on my own through my own effort. Back in the days when I was a student at Makerere, the Computer Centre at the university was just a curiosity, for the nerds or eggheads. Not for once did I suspect that a computer would soon become an essential of life, just like the English language for eg.
I never slept all night, but am glad I finished my preparation well in advance, now back to sleep.
Bobby
