A man has come up with a rather bizarre way of robbing banks by wearing wigs but this technique has proven successful in shielding his identity.

The guise has proved so successful that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is now falling on the public to help identify him for prosecution.

The "Bad Wig Bandit", as the FBI has nicknamed him, stands accused of robbing at least three banks just outside of Charlotte.

The man, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, according to the officials, began his robbery streak on December 13 by attacking the BB&T Bank in Huntersville before robbing two banks on January 7 – New Horizon Bank in Belmont and the Wells Fargo in Gastonia.

FBI agents say he robs banks wearing different wigs each time and despite being captured on surveillance cameras, he remains elusive. The suspect, according to the FBI, is a black man.

He has been spotted wearing blonde and black wigs, and in the third, settling on a red wig, reports WDRB.

The 911 call details released from the Belmont robbery had a bank employee recalling that the suspect had been to the bank a week before, asking about using a bathroom.

The bank employee explained: "He's come in here scoping us out one other time, said he was looking for a bathroom."

"Give me your money, I have a gun. Remember you have a family at home. Don't say anything," a note the suspect flashed to the bank employee read. The amount of money taken has not been disclosed.

Anyone with information about the "Bad Wig Bandit" robberies is being asked to contact the Charlotte FBI Branch at (704) 672-6100.
