{UAH} KHARTOUM UNREST TODAY
Picture: A Sudan soldier armed with a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) running in the streets before firing a round earlier today in Khartoum.
As unrest erupts in the Sudanese capital, I call on African leaders and the wider international community to intervene in Sudan fast, so as to secure the country's political transition. Having worked there for several years in post conflict humanitarian efforts, I can guarantee anyone that this is a nation with so many weapons in so many loose hands, and so many different units with so many different local interests. If nothing is done soon to help strengthen the center's control on all government institutions across the country, plus assistance in stabilizing Sudan both politically and economically, there is a definite risk that everything will come crushing down like Libya.
