{UAH} Makerere to Borrow UGX 220 Billion to Set Up Four New Halls of Residence

KFC Bugolobi

On their move to consolidate Makerere Unbiversity's  position as a world class leader in research and innovation, Uganda's oldest and largest university is in need of USD 60 million (about Shs220 billion) to build four new halls of residence.

During his address at the 70th graduation ceremony, the University Vice-Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe revealed that they are planning to construct new halls of residence for female students.

Now Nawangwe has reportedly told KFM, a local radio station that they are planning to get a loan from the government after which construction of the halls will commence. The big news comes following Makerere female students' better performance in comparison to their male counterparts.

"Improving the living conditions of our graduate and female students by constructing specialized hostels for graduate and female students; and other. This will consolidate Makerere's position as a world class leader in research and innovation and accelerate our economic development." Reads one of the measures to achieve the university's ten-year strategic plan in Nawangwe's graduation speech.

Despite the university having only three girls' halls of residences, the female students still beat boys in accordance to the recent graduation statistics
