{UAH} US begged Iran to retaliate minimally in Soleimeini killing

In war, the first casualty is the truth. Here, we learn that US officials earnestly begged Iran to minimize its retaliation, so as not to provoke Trump into further and, likely, more severe attacks. 

So, US expected Iran to shoot back alright; they just did not want Tehran go all out, and inflict harm to US military personnel in the region.
