{UAH} BABA MOI

THE LITTLE L CAN REMEMBER ABOUT SIR DANIEL ARAP TOROITICH MOI.

l remember Moi to have been with a character of Edward Kiwanuka
Ssekandi, of total loyalty to Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and managed to beat
the Mafia, and succeeded Kenyatta after his death in 1978, and
consolidated with the help of Charles Njojo who was Attorney General,
and Mwai Kibaki who was Finance Minister, whom he rewarded handsomely
as Mibnister for Constitutional Affairs and Vice President and Finance
Minister repectively before he fell out with them starting with Njonjo
after 1982 Air Force coup attempt.
He handed over power to Kibaki after he defeated Uhuru Kenyatta.
He is said to have been behind reconciliation of Uhuru and Raila.
Here we remember him for leading the Kenya delegation to 12th OAU
Ordinary summit that took place in Kampala. There was a Uganda Armed
Forces exercise at Cape Town View on the shores of Lake Victoria,
military maneuvers on how to hit Apartheid South Africa and other
minority regimes. Moi said that those maneuvers had scared South
Africa and it had started pulling out its tropes from Rhodesia, which
paved way for Zimbabwe independence in 1980.
Moi also presided over Nairobi peace talks between the Okellos' Junta
and NRA that ended in a peace accord. Much of what was in the accord,
including demilitarization of Kampala and forming a broad based
government, were done by NRM/NRA after 1986 victory.
Moi and King Mswati of Swaziland are the only heads of state and
government that have addressed Buganda Lukiiko (other than President
Museveni) ever since institutions of traditional and cultural leaders
were restored in 1993.
