{UAH} I don't have a political party and I will never have one
By Valentine Holywar
As a Luweero born, who grew up in war, studied in war and participated in War. I saw Museveni as a true saviour and a visionary. I was born in staunch DP family. In 1986 on the 29 of January President Museveni while coming out of the bush had no political party. But instead filled up his cabinet with almost 78% DP, 2%CP and Friends including old timers. Fine. He Museveni instilled in Ugandans the spirit of hatred towards political parties! His prophecy was that Political Parties in Uganda was the second biggest problem after that of Leaders who overstay in power. I was listening. He further lamented how evil the political parties were; he said that politics of colours, religion, tribes was a disaster and un developmental. He said DP was for Baganda and Catholics and that UPC was for Northerners and Protestants. CP was for conservatives. He said parties in Uganda should be abolished. There came the 1993 Constituent Assembly by 1995 at the helm of the Constitution inauguration political parties were legally abolished. There came 1996 presidential campaign it was Museveni personally vs Ssemogerere personally, even in 2001 it Museveni vs Besigye. Had it not been due to power hungry, power thirst and greed of Museveni wanting to stand for the top office! Many Ugandans including I myself had got used to personalities and not parties. In 2006 Museveni lifted the political parties ban by amending the Constitution. Let me cut things short. I don't have a political party and I will never have one. I vote personality not a party. Many youths in Uganda don't know political parties something good Museveni had brought. But due to the Mulugube! Awo wewali ekizibu!
