{UAH} Itabuka was Amin's first SRB chief
Itabuka was Amin's first SRB chief. He says he dealt mainly with counter-intelligence, which was different from police, special branch or military intelligence. Counter-intelligence was more like ESO.
He says that Amin had a tendency of appointing someone to a post and then by-passing him and giving orders to his junior. Itabuka says he felt side lined. Itabuka also says he was responsible for Amin's security detail and had warned Amin about a possible grenade attack, but Amin ignored him. On the day a grenade was thrown at Amin at Nsambya, it was Itabuka's deputy, Farouk Minawa, who was in charge. Later, Itabuka would seek audience with Amin (with others present) and asked for Amin to do one of 3 things: (1) transfer (2) dismissal (3) that Amin shoot him dead. He was transferred as CO to Rwenzori.
He says that all Uganda's post independence presidents (he does not mention Muteesa) had the Amin tendency and that things have not changed at all. He gave an example of former IGP Kayihura's methods of work as an illustration of failure to follow chain of command and seeking to micromanage things instead.
